Cholesterol and your Health

Cholesterol is a lipid (a type of fat or wax) that the body needs to produce certain hormones, aid in tissue formation and protects nerves. When in balance all cholesterol is good, it is only when there is excess occurring health problems.
Cholesterol comes from two sources:
- cholesterol produced by the body through the brain, liver, pancreas and spinal cord.
- Cholesterol content. This cholesterol is caused by the accumulation of saturated fats from our diet. You can also come from animal foods, eg meat, dairy products, animal fats, seafood and so on.
According to studies the consumption of saturated and hydrogenated fat that raises cholesterol in the body and not necessarily the foods that contain it. Saturated fats are those that are solid at room temperature such as meat, butter and others.
Types of cholesterol
There are two types of cholesterol:
- LDL (low density lipoprotein) is known as bad cholesterol. When there is an excess of cholesterol in the body that tends to accumulate in the arteries blocking the normal blood flow and causing difficulties in the heart and brain.
- HDL (high density lipoprotein) cholesterol is called good. It is necessary for the proper functioning of the body and helps regulate the amount of LDL or bad cholesterol.
Problems when cholesterol is high
When increasing the level of bad cholesterol may develop:
Loss of hair.
Hearing loss.
Dizziness.
Heart attacks.
Difficulty breathing.
Hypertension.
Those are much more concerned with high cholesterol are bad for people with respiratory and heart problems.
